Well hello again! I’ve been on a no shopping spree for almost three months now. I’ve only bought the necessities, which include groceries and toiletries. I decided that after the Christmas shopping was done I wouldn’t buy anything until I edited what I already have and make a shopping plan (list). I’ve done pretty well so far.
It hasn’t been that difficult not to buy things. I want to use up what I already have around the house. The things I haven’t used or even touched in the past few months I’ll either throw out or give away. I have a lot of hair care products! I actually haven’t bought them, but, my daughter has been on a real editing kick for a while now and cleared out tonnes, I mean tonnes of hair products. I’ve kept them and I’m trying to go through them, but, since I only wash my hair every 3 days… I’m not going through the products very fast.
Of course the things I use daily I’m dying to repurchase. I’m on the last bit of shampoo. I haven’t had hairspray in ages. Plus I really want some skin care products as I’m on the last bits of those too! I haven’t bought any clothes and I feel like my clothes are starting to look tired and ragged.
This is all to clear out clutter from my home. Trying to declutter is difficult, but, I think using up things that are stored away for a rainy day is a good start. Also, I don’t want to go clothes or shoe shopping until I go through my wardrobe and make a detailed list of items I really need. Too many times I’ve bought things that I either don’t wear or I don’t really like as much as I thought I would. What a waste that is!
Alright, I have to admit I have bought a few things and I really wish I hadn’t bothered which proves I shouldn’t have spent the money on them. I bought a black long-sleeved tee-shirt from Costco that I don’t find that comfortable to wear. I also bought a book from Costco that I’ve had for a month and I haven’t even started to read it yet! The one great purchase I made was the Abeego reusable food wraps. I love them! I’m trying to find ways to reduce my use of plastic and these wraps replace plastic cling wrap.
My next step is to go through my closet and get rid of what I don’t wear. I’ll make a list of what I really need. Then I’ll do some window shopping online to figure what I’d like to buy. To keep track of things I’d like to buy I started a Pinterest board for my wish list which you can check out here. I have to admit I really want to go shopping! I’m itching to buy things for the home to freshen it up and things for me to freshen me up!
Speaking up freshening up… I’m doing a juice fast right now to freshen me up. I felt I needed a detox from all the breads and pasta I love to eat. It’s a three-day fast and tomorrow I’m finished. I’ll tell you more about it soon.
Would you consider no shopping for a month or more?
